LEISE + DAVID
Leise + David’s Rockaway Beach engagement session was quite possibly my favorite session to date and I know - as a photographer I shouldn’t ever really say I have a “favorite” of anything. But there was something about this session on the beach that day that was incredibly intimate and wildly free.
As surfer’s, Leise and David spent a lot of time surfing at this particular spot at Rockaway Beach so it was only right to come back to “their spot” to shoot this session just before the sun set. Low tide made it easy to stroll and hop over the small tide pools before eventually kicking off our shoes to climb the rocks for some epic ocean views. We wandered back down to the waves where Leise + David revealed that were both salsa dancers and then proceeded to salsa on the shore as the waves splashed into them. I could have watched them salsa for hours honestly, it was amazing to see them move effortlessly across the sand in unison with each other. As the sun set, we sat for a while on the beach to watch the eager surfer’s ride their last waves in to shore before heading home.
When couple’s ask for location suggestions for their engagement sessions, I always recommend choosing a location that has a special meaning to them both. Maybe it’s where you met, maybe it’s a favorite park or the college campus you both attended or it could even be a favorite activity you both love to do because honestly an engagement session is a true reflection of who you are as a couple.
It’s more than just standing and smiling at the camera, it’s documenting the love you have for each other in one of the places that means something to you both for whatever reason. I will say it is truly one of the rare occasions you’ll have where you will have a whole set of photos of the two of you as you are, where you aren’t all dressed up in a gown and tux (trust me - you will have a TON of those photos too) My point being that an engagement session can be wherever YOU want it to be. As I said, maybe it’s where you both met, maybe it’s cozy in your own home OR maaaaybe it’s on the beach where you surf and salsa on the sand : )
